Odd, which port are you using? Can you run a 3D benchmark to be sure that 3D is working?

How are you powering the card?

Did you try Netkas iTunes fix? (from main page?) It appears to work for him but didn't work on my Mac Pro.

Tested DVI and HDMI.

I can't run 3D test since i came back to normal with 10.7.3 and ATI radeon X1900 XT (with HD4890 Aperture, etc... don't show pictures) .

For powering i had one from stock (6 pins) and for the 8 pins i've disconnected DVD and used both Molex with a cable "2 molex -> 8pins", it's why for the time being it's a bit complicated ...

No i didn't test Netkas iTunes fix.

I've tested 4890 under 10.8 without success

Well, I gave it a shot.  Installed Mountain Lion on a clone of my Mac HD.  Runs fine on my Mac Pro 2,1 (formerly a 1,1) using the 32 bit kernel.  Attempted to boot the 64 bit kernel using the Chameleon (which works beautifully in Lion).  Unfortunately, I get stuck in an endless loop...after Chameleon does its thing, I get the grey Apple logo screen for a moment, then...boom...the system reboots itself...this happens over and over.

Popped my original drive back in and happily running Lion and the 64 bit kernel via Chameleon.

Not sure whats going on.  Probably a Chameleon issue, but perhaps not.

Graphics card is an ATI 4870 Mac edition.  May try again tomorrow with an Nvidia GeForce 470 (PC version...no EFI...which works great with the Chameleon boot on Lion, btw).

You need to update chameleon to a build that supports 10.8 - there are changes needed to 2 files (boot.c and bootstruct.c)

Thanks much.

Tried several builds of Chameleon.  The only one that worked with Mountain Lion and my Mac Pro 2,1 was r1820.  More recent builds (r1830, r1839) resulted in a reboot loop.

Now running 10.8 on the 64bit kernel with a Mac Pro 2,1 (upgraded from 1,1).

Full graphics acceleration with Nvidia GTX 470 (PC card).

Now on to more testing!

Also thanks a lot Wink

I can confirm Mountain Lion DP2 working on my Mac Pro 1,1 (no mods besides an upgrade to the GPU which is a GeForce 8800 GT Mac). I also use Chameleon r1820 with 10.8 patch. The older builds gave me a reboot loop and I didn't try newer builds. In case someone wants to try this: I copied the root disk of a Mountain Lion DP2 which was running as a Parallels Desktop virtual machine via Terminal and ssh over to the hosting Lion into a prepared HFS+ volume. Before I started the real Mountain Lion DP2 I removed al prl and parallels references in kext and filesystems. It works well and quite stable.

@jabbawok

One Question, the installer partion on your disk, do you reuse this one and also install ML 10.8 on it or will you install to another disk?
Forget the question - i got it.

BTW, no need to use / find PackageMaker from old DeveloperTools. Just create a empty directory, cd to it, car -xvf  OSInstall.mpkg; open Distribution file with TextEdit / TextWrangeler, make changes, save it, and recreate the package: xar -cvf /tmp/OSInstall.mpkg *. If you know tar you will get it.

Thanks, runes
