I came across this very interesting GPU power consumption chart.  Scroll down a bit  . .

http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php/topic/264-the-truth-about-graphics-power-requirements-v2/.

The chart shows power consumption at  Idle - moderate load - peak.

The 1.1 & 2,1 cMPs are certainly " power piranas " . . after I bought my 4,1 cMP I was amazed at how much less power it used.

My monthly house electricity bill dropped by 1/3.

Now we have craphics cards that appear to use as much power as the cMP 1,1 & 2,1's  Cheesy.

I was also surprised that at IDLE my HIS HD 7950 uses only 14 watts compared to the HD 5870 @ 20 watts & the HD 5770 @ 18 watts.

ATI seems to have improved their card's power management.

Of course under full load the wattage drawn greatly increases,

The 7950 only idle at ~15W in single monitor config. When multiple monitor connected, the idle consumption will jump up to ~50W straight away.
