The dosdude1 patch can get the MP3,1 running 10.13 GM candidate with APFS on a retrofitted SSD but only with either an HD2600 or GeForce GT8800 card installed.  All later cards and even those from Apple such as the HD5770 and 5870 seem to refuse to boot even with a helper card in place.  The issue seems to be that Apple has rewritten the kext drivers for later AMD cards to depend on the CPU supporting SSE4.2, which the Intel Xeons in the 3,1 do not support. Presumably this was done to implement Metal 2.
There is speculation that the nVidia drivers do not have this dependence on SSE4.2, so efi-flashed nVidia cards might still boot. Has anybody with a MP 3,1 running 10.13 had success with a later efi-flashed nVidia card of any series from the last 3 or 4 years?

Nice find. If this is true that would make another bump in sales of flashed NVIDIA cards this time for just Mac Pro 3,1 users Wink
