Hello everyone,

Yesterday I received a led cinema display. It is a gift.
I'm using nvidia 8800GT and its DVI, so, I cannot plug this huge screen in it Sad
So I'm thinking about changing the 8800GT to another... but I'd like you to help me which I should buy. It should have Mini displayport (or displayport at least).

What I would use is:
- Internet (youtube, the web...)
- Adobe suite and Final cut
- Steam

I am noob in flashing or modding, but I don't mind. Just a new graphic card advice, please, to make this 27" work in a MacPro3,1

Thank you!!

Buy an Apple 5770 or 5870 with mini DP on it, job done.

$200 Atlona adapter or $250 ATI 5770 or $140 4870 (The ATI cards should be Apple ones if you want DP working)

Working DP on flashed cards is hit and miss, go with Apple OEM if you want trouble free.

The GT120 has MDP but is a sluggard

Thanks for the answer,

I have been reading in many sites that ATI 6870 runs perfectly without any modifications in 10.7
So I ordered one which has MDPx2, HDMI and DVIx2. At least, MDP should work. If not, I will use groths' kexts

I ordered this because lion is ready for them...it is highly probably that the new Mac Pros come with 6870 and/or 6970. I will tell you the results :-)

I would be so happy to hear your results! Please post. I'm a really similar situation.

Be sure that I will Smiley
Anyway, I am optimistic... I have been searching during hours which could be the best PC graphic card into a MacPro without having headaches. 6870 has excellent price and performance for everything.

Take a look in here. They say that Led Cinema Display 27" works perfectly without any injection, that is, out of box... in a Hackintosh! Which means it should work in MacPro1,1...2,1...3,1...anyone. The same card (Sapphire 6870 Vapor-X) is the one I've ordered.

I think in some weeks we could flash its ROM for making bootscreen, DVD, etc... work

I am using the Atlona DP400 to convert Dual-link DVI to Mini-DisplayPort because the 5870 *really* doesn't like DisplayPort -> Mini-DisplayPort adapters.

I think the best price you'll find on one is here: http://www.buy.com/prod/atlona-at-dp400-signal-converter-functions-signal-conversion-audio/q/loc/111/214974050.html

Hi everyone!

My Sapphire 6870 Vector-x has just come home. I am releasing my new LED Cinema Display 27" with it.
I have NOT installed any driver for making it work under OSX 10.7 Lion.
It works awesome. As said in many sites, boot screet doesn't work, but it shows some secs the Apple logo. What doesn't work is Steam and DVD Player. For that I will install groths' kexts and that's all.

Here is the proof that I am releasing my ACD 27" (I am so happy...I have been using a CRT monitor since 2004)

Congrats, that is a nice monitor (got one myself). Only thing I dislike is that I had to make black curtains behind me so the screen don't mirror everything in the room.

Works wonderfully with Ati 5870 (modified kext) and with Nvidia 285 GTX (with Atlona D400 DVI to mDP).

I absolutely love the LED Cinema Display - I have one on my desk at work, and one on my desk at home.  I've also bitched at our Apple Strategic Accounts rep to please PLEASE make a matte-finished version  Undecided

Don't want to start a war of faith:
But I'd trade my 30" Cinema Display with your 27" anytime. The Anti-Glare coating is SO, SO bad for colors and sharpness.
Be happy about your 27". I'd be.
