Title: nMP and eGPU working in Windows !
Post by: Rominator on October 10, 2015, 09:51:47 AM
Screen shots coming.

It's a GTX670 for now.

For those not in the know, nobody has gotten an eGPU to work in Windows on nMP 6,1 yet.

As usual, MVC and Netkas do it first !

So far have also gotten Titan running. Nice and smooth.

More info and screenshots coming.

Great work indeed!

I would really like to use my eGPU with my nMP + Windows, especially for graphics intensive 3D games like „Witcher 3“ or applications which aren’t available for OS X!

Please keep us informed about your progress and also how to be able to use your results :O)

So last night I watched someone else play "The Phantom Pain" on nMP via a GTX Titan on a 65" 4K.

Breathtaking !

And it never crashed, nice and stable. I think that the 3D Mark scores need a better CPU to shine so I have one coming.

Will be spending some time working out details.

This is absolutely fantastic news Rominator. I can see myself keeping this first gen trash can around for a little longer now. Are you going to give it a shot with a GTX 980 Ti too? That's the card I'm currently running in my 5,1. I would love to use it with the nMP too on occasion.

Cheers for the great work!

Can't say too much, but next week will bring eGPU more into the spotlight.

Will also establish the Netkas/MVC alliance as leaders in eGPU tech for Macs.

We had display output first for OS X (until goalie played peek-a-boo) and first with Mac Pro 2013 6,1 and Windows. (nobody else has done it yet because they had nowhere to peek)

Expect some surprising benchmarks.

I look forward to this. I'll still stay with hackintosh though for all around better expansion, but I like seeing new options/doors open up for those still loyal to apples hardware.

Looking forward to this.  Could stomach a nMP IF there were an affordable external chassis to install say 4 full height, full length, full power GPUs.

Wouldn't hold my breath for this. Thunderbolt is limited to 20Gb/s bandwidth if I'm not mistaken, which will bottleneck even a single video card already. Depending on your intended usage this would severely bottleneck them.

Hope to hear more on this!

It's killing me seeing all these TB3 GPU enclosures at CES.

It would be so awesome to have for a Mac to finally mac an iMac (or any Mac) a truly viable gaming machine with GPU upgradeability

Help me please!
i have had Error 12 code when i'm trying to connect Geforce 980 card to my nMP in windows.
Thanks for any help.

Any other development on this side?

I've built an eGPU for my nMP since February and now it's just sitting on my desk doing nothing.

Is there a possibility to use it in the foreseeable future? I'm thinking I could just sell it and forget it.

Yes, as weeks do.

Be patient.

This thing has been sitting on my desk for 6 months and you've been saying that you'll come up with a method for 8 months. I think I'm already being patient.

But hey, if you're not willing to give it to the world, just say it, so we don't waste our time reading this forum.

Talk to old Goalie. We are at 1 year since his glory grab resulted in eGPU for Macs getting held up.

Soon there will be good news for OSX that will make his petty theft irrelevant anyhow, he may as well own up before sinking back into obscurity.

Title: Re: nMP and eGPU working in Windows !
Post by: razvani on June 14, 2016, 06:21:29 PM
Hey, the community out here can't solve the conflicts between you and whoever "old Goalie" is. You have to talk to him about it, don't ask us for that. This is just plain silly. You certainly seem like a very vengeful person.

What's the point of this research if you're keeping it to yourself anyway? Why even rely your research on your conflict with "Goalie" ?

Can we get an answer besides "talk to Goalie"?

Can we stop wasting time?

Actually, I do.

BTW, Goalque's little hedgemony just ended.

Sierra has eGPU support OUT Of THE BOX.

His little bag of stolen tricks is no longer needed and he will shortly squirm back into the woodwork and vanish back into the obscurity he deserves.

So, we will rethink release of more useful info on nMP and WIndows.

sorry i don't get it. You are going to wait for bootcamp sierra drivers to support EGPUs on win10 natively?

Windows needs separate drivers. OS X has nothing to do with it.

NVIDIA added BETA support for Thunderbolt 3 eGPU but Rominator said it didn't helped.

You're right, you don't get it.

I can't even tell what you're asking.

Had a real gamer try Occulus on 6,1 last night. He was very impressed but also felt woozy after 20-30 minutes.

"So, we will rethink release of more useful info on nMP and WIndows."

i'm asking if you're going to wait for apple to make work EGPUs on windows via bootcamp installation the same way it's supported in macos, or you're going to share your magic trick at last.
I've readed whole post and i can only conclude you're on some kind of vendetta with someone who took credit for your work. BUT, you're punishing every other user who is trying to achieve this and probably you're helping that guy giving him more time to get a valid way to use EGPUs on windows... You really should rethink your position about this. At least i'm happy to know it's possible, I guess someone will eventually figure it out and share it...

Hello guys :-)
Any news ? I tought Rominator and Nektas wanted to sell flashed Gpu... But there is not any new about anything.. quiet a shame actually.
So I hope there is something here I'm missing, but I guess no.

See you :-)

They are still waiting for GTX1060/GTX1070/1080/Titan X drivers for OS X, but something new from the AMD branch could be released as well. RX480 is a good candidate.

It's almost impossible to get any 980/980Ti/GTX Titan X cards now.

" nMP and eGPU working in Windows ! "
I was asking for windows :-)
And Nvidia drivers for 1080, I think we'll wait forever. So yes what about making eGpu working for bootcamp at first ?
And then if the impossible arrives well... :-)

yes, but don't forget to stay on b17

http://netkas.org/forum/index.php/topic,11655.0.html

it could be the downgrade from b21 to b17 isn't working now.

Title: Re: nMP and eGPU working in Windows !
Post by: netkas on May 16, 2017, 07:43:24 PM
So, downgrade from b21 to b20/b17 is not possible.
Same thing happened on mini, since b14 the egpu is blocked, efi system firmware won't execute efi module from tb connected egpu., downgrade is not possible.

My nmp is still on b16 with 10.12.5 as I use target disk mode (with mini) to upgrade nmp.

Here is a 3D Mark with 1080 but the D300s are listed as Main GPUs (hit the "Secondary" tab to see 1080)

http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1767834

In this one I made the 1080s primary.

http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1768185

Going to add some new Uningine Superposition scores tonight I think.

Good news is we will finally make these 6,1 nMP eGPUs available for sale...soon.

Who knew 6,1 could still be in 99th percentile?

http://www.3dmark.com/cg/4023237

1080 on TimeSpy in 12 Core

http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1777188

Titan Xp on same machine, new high for 6,1  Total Score 8,503

http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1778062

(92% percentile, 2.5x the score for a VR machine requirements at 3,362)

Wow - superb results ;) Offering eGPU's would make much wider range of customers for flashed cards.

So basically your EFI makes these cards run under Windows even with zero OS mods.

What happens if a customer puts such card in cMP - will it work or is it some kind some of special rom which will work only as eGPU?

Inquiring minds want to know !

We have a 1080 and a Titan-Xp that boot right into Win 10 on nMP, no mods needed.

Apple has added some drama to the game with their High Sierra antics, but we shall prevail.

I was scared the iMac Pro is about to replace Mac Pro, but thankfully it won't. We should see a dual CPU machine (probably up to 2x 18 cores + HT = 72 threads) with dual 10 Gbps Ethernet and 2x or more PCI-Express 3.0 (maybe even 4.0 or 5.0) slots.

Do you think we will be able to access that beautiful feature soon ?

Cheers,
