Please, i need some help, a situation with no complications under 10.5 and 10.6 became complicated under os x 10.7 lion my config : mac pro 3,1 nvidia efi 8800 gt and asus 285 gtx since 2 years in the mac. If i'm right, expansion slot utility is for macs 1,1... after it, impossible to launch this utility... anyway, the mac 3.1 has 2 slots x16 PCIe 2.0, and two others in 4x PCIe 1.0. ... config that can't be changed by the slot utility...so, i tried with 8800 in slot 3 as told in my first post ( wanted to follow your advices in other posts ) But your answer could be helpful for our friend Netadam ;) I'm still searching for the 3,1 mac :-[ Title: Re: macpro 3,1 OSX Lion / Nvidia 8800gt and 285 gtx issue Post by: Rominator on August 06, 2011, 08:40:56 PM I am very perplexed by these new ATY_Init / Nvidia issues.
I have a 1,1 and a 4,1 (thinks it's a 5,1) and neither of them have had the tiniest bit of trouble with ATY_Init and any of the Lion Betas or the GM. Unless there is a Specific 3,1 issue, I can't begin to guess what is wrong for you guys. How do you power an 88GT and a GTX285 at same time? I have external PSUs but I don't think everyone would be happy with the octopus of wires on my desks. So The 8800GT is connected on the free Molex connector via an adaptator like this http://www.hypnoprix.fr/Cable-d-alimentation-PCI-Express-Graphics-PCI-E-6-broches-p-1547-c-8_29.html and the nvidia 285 gtx is connected on the mainboard via two cables like the stock cable from apple founded via ebay :) __________________ I was surprised few days ago launching my mac on snow leopard after updating to 10.6.8 (restored from backup 10.6.4) to see a black screen on my screen drived by 285... Re-installed nektas ATY_init (old one), and worked again... But, again, nothing helpful yet for Lion...
