I saw that someone uploaded the apple oem 5770 rom file (thanks!), but all i see is the vanilla sapphire one from a couple weeks back.  I also saw this here http://netkas.org/?p=544 .  Is the vanilla sapphire the hybrid rom that was make a couple weeks back?  Thanks, and sorry for the noobish questions, it's late, and I'm tired.

edit: well, maybe it's due to the fact that you JUST hacked it.  Everything is all mashed together in my brain right now, haha.  Don't mind me

I didn't know you could use the rom without modification, I thought it had to be hacked/modified to run on a pc card or something.  Then what's the big deal about the hacked rom on the main page?

What makes you think the ROM works without modification? It certainly doesn't.

I never thought that.  Elphiel linked to the OEM dump so I i was under the impression they were implying to just download it and go.  I don't even remember what the original intent of the thread was lol.  I think I was trying to say I was looking an OEM version that was modified and ready for pc cards :\.

Hopefully Netkas will sooner or later show us where these "checks" were in the 5870 EFI so that we can craft an EBC for 5770 cards.

It seems that the modifications to the EBC are quite large. Not sure what the checks were, but the uakari EBC differs from Apple's by much more than a couple of bytes. Thankesfully, these changes need only to be applied once (assuming Apple won't brick flashed cards on purpose at each SW update.  Angry)

Meanwhile, do you think it's possible to use the 5870 EBC (uakari) on the 5770? I assume it could be done with a couple of changes (Device ID...), since the iMac's EFI could be adapted to both the 5770 and 5870. Most things are managed by the BIOS, after all.

Here's what I've done...
 1) Booted in to windows (with my stock Apple card removed -- I had already installed Windows - used XP 32bit)
 2) Used Radeon BIOS Editor to save my stock rom (for this card)
 3) Used RBE (linked above) to force flash my 5770 with the Vanilla Sapphire ROM netkas posted here.
 4) Rebooted..

The results thus far are encouraging.. The EFI bootscreen worked fine, I could select what OS to boot from the Apple boot selector thing (via holding down "option" on boot).

The card doesn't work great in OSX, but it works. I can only drive one display (both have the same image on them) with no options to change resolution (from 800x600). I haven't yet booted in to Windows again, but I'm expecting everything to be fine. I'm running 10.6.4 on a MacPro 3,1.

Here's a screenshot of the Hardware Info given with the flashed card in OSX.

Hi,

What's up Doc?

(sorry, couldn't resist)

Basically, you have put the iMac 5770 combo rom on your 5770 and have limited functionality?, yes?

And with both displays connected, you get EFI boot?

But.....I'm going to guess that if you disconnect one of them...no EFI boot screen?

Hey Rominator
I guess I've put in the iMac 5770 combo rom, I'm not totally sure, I linked it in that post though.

I get much functionality. I've found that the EFI low-level mode displays fine with one or two monitors. But I'm still stick with 800x600 in OSX and only one monitor support. I haven't tried to get it to do any QE stuff either, maybe that's not working, but it looked good.

Card works the same (great) in Windows. And I'm having a headache in Linux, but I'm pretty sure that's cause the latest version of Xorg may not be supported. I dunno about that one.
