I am having the same issues after finding the 3650 did not work.  I am going to try one last thing.

Install 10.5.1.
Update to 10.5.2. Reboot.
Install Graphics Update.  Do not reboot.
Install Natit stuff.

If that does not work I will probably return the 3650 or 3870, putting the other in my Gentoo box, and get one of the Nvidia's with working EFI strings.

the latest natit didn't work for my 3870 as well, so i tried a bit older driver (triakis) and it worked. you'll find it on irc (irc.osx86.hu, #radeonhd) - look for "OLD All without 2400-DVI with fixed Triakis"

i did things in this order:
kalyway 10.5.1 - repair permissions - netkas update 10.5.2 - newest netkas 9.2.0 kernel - reboot - graphics update - DO NOT REBOOT - triakis - reboot.

note that triakis entry is a workaround only if the newest natit is not working for you.

newest natit MUST be installed after applying the leopard graphics update, so if you're using 10.5.1, either upgrade to 10.5.2, or use pacifist to install graphics update (downloaded from apple site).

How do you get the machine to install the Graphics Update without rebooting?

just don't click on "reboot" after graphics update leaving the install window open.
then do the triakis (or natit), and then click on reboot.

The update issue was that I was installing via Software Update.  I got the download off Apple's site.  Rebooting now but I just realized I only did the old Natit.kext, not the whole old package!  Doh!

Strange thing.  I did the following:

Install 10.5.1, reboot.
Update to 10.5.2, install latest kernel of Netkas and a different AppleSMBIOS.kext, install old Trikas package, add dev id to ATIRadeonX2000.kext, reboot.
I get a blue screen, and no cursor.
I reboot into Safe Mode and I get all resolutions, etc but of course no QE/CI.

Ugh!  So close, yet not there.  Note this was not with the Graphics Update.

Ok, so I did the Graphics Update, reapplied the Triakis package and rebooted.
Got the blue screen.  Said f*** yet again.   Shocked  Went and put laundry in the wash, came back 5-10min later and the screen was up with QE/CI supported!!!!

i got a sapphire hd3870 ultimate (passive cooling).
i tried several "drivers", natit and triakis and the only
results i could get were a) a garbled screen or b) a black screen
with instant reboot after bootscreen.

any ideas?

I have Sapphire HD3870 512MB and couldn't get retail or Kalyway 10.5.2 to work but had success with the iATKOS 10.5.4 release updated with the Triakis driver from irc.osx86.hu #radeonhd ...

just an update:

my card is WORKING now!
the solution was changing the motherboard Wink
it looks like the ATI card did not like the nfoce chipset.

now it is ATI 3870 - AMD 790x - AMD x2 6000+

cheers
